About You

Lead a nationally significant environmental investment programme

Most project delivery leadership roles are about delivering projects. This is an opportunity to shape how we improve the environment, protect communities and manage mining legacy risks across the UK.

We’re looking for an accomplished programme leader to head our Coal Project Delivery team and take ownership of a £20m to £30m annual capital investment programme. You’ll lead projects that improve water quality, protect communities and create lasting environmental benefits.

You’ll combine strategic leadership with a strong record of delivery at scale. You’ll know how to set direction, build organisational confidence and bring people together around complex priorities, while maintaining a clear focus on outcomes.  You'll join an established and highly capable team, with genuine scope to shape future delivery, influence organisational priorities and leave a lasting legacy through nationally significant environmental projects.

You'll lead an established team of experienced project and programme professionals with a strong track record of delivering complex environmental projects.

We welcome applications from leaders in infrastructure, water, utilities, highways, environmental delivery, construction and other complex programme environments. Mining experience is not essential. What matters is your ability to lead people, shape strategy and deliver major programmes successfully.  Specialist knowledge of our work can be developed.

You’ll bring:

  • A track record of leading complex capital programmes or portfolios at scale
  • Experience building and developing high-performing delivery teams
  • The credibility to influence senior stakeholders and navigate competing priorities
  • Strong commercial judgement and confidence operating within governance and risk frameworks
  • Experience overseeing significant budgets, delivery partners and supply chains
  • The ability to turn strategic ambitions into a deliverable programme that achieves real outcomes

This opportunity will suit someone motivated by purpose, scale and influence, and by the chance to deliver work that makes a tangible difference to communities and the environment.

About The Role

As Head of Project Delivery (Coal), you’ll have significant ownership of one of the Mining Remediation Authority’s largest capital programmes, leading an established and highly capable team of project and programme professionals.

Alongside ensuring successful delivery, you’ll help shape the programme’s future direction. You’ll strengthen relationships across the organisation, build a sustainable pipeline of future work and influence how we deliver long-term environmental and community value.

Working with senior colleagues across Operations, Technical, Engineering, Planning and Environmental teams, you’ll provide the leadership, governance and strategic oversight needed to deliver a diverse and complex portfolio safely and effectively.

In this influential role, you will:

  • Set the strategic direction for the Coal Project Delivery programme
  • Lead, develop and empower a team of project and programme professionals
  • Take ownership of performance across a £20m to £30m annual capital programme
  • Provide assurance and oversight across budgets, governance, risk and delivery
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, customers and delivery partners
  • Strengthen the long-term programme pipeline and future delivery capability
  • Champion innovation, continuous improvement and delivery excellence
  • Play a key role in the leadership and future direction of the Environment Directorate

This is an opportunity to lead at scale, influence strategic decisions and shape a programme with clear national, environmental and community impact.

If you're looking for a leadership role with national impact, strategic influence and the opportunity to shape the future of environmental delivery, we'd love to hear from you.
