About You

Help deliver the next generation of renewable energy projects

Imagine seeing the renewable energy projects you've helped design move from an idea on paper to a working asset delivering real environmental benefits.

As we expand renewable energy across our estate and work towards our net zero ambitions, we're looking for someone who can spot opportunities, solve complex challenges and help turn ideas into successful projects.

This is an opportunity to do more than design solar PV systems. You'll help identify opportunities, influence investment decisions and support projects through development, delivery and operation.

You may already be an experienced Solar PV Designer, Renewable Energy Engineer or Project Engineer, or perhaps you're ready to take the next step in your career. Either way, you'll bring practical solar PV experience and an understanding of what makes a project technically sound, commercially viable and deliverable in the real world.

You'll be comfortable:

  • Producing and reviewing ground-mounted solar PV designs
  • Assessing technical, financial and operational feasibility
  • Identifying site constraints and developing practical solutions
  • Considering factors such as grid capacity, planning requirements, battery storage and project costs
  • Explaining technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

You'll be curious, proactive and commercially aware, with a passion for finding solutions and making things happen. Most importantly, you'll be motivated by the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the transition to a lower-carbon future.

We know that great candidates don't always meet every requirement. If your experience is slightly different but you can demonstrate how you'll add value, we'd love to hear from you.

About The Role

Turn opportunities into renewable energy projects

As our Renewable Energy Specialist, you'll help identify, develop and deliver renewable energy opportunities across a unique operational estate.

A significant part of your role will involve visiting Mine Water Treatment Scheme sites to understand how they operate, identify opportunities and constraints, and develop practical renewable energy solutions. Using this insight, you'll produce detailed solar PV designs and evaluate options, including battery storage where appropriate.

This is far more than a design role. You'll help shape investment decisions by balancing technical performance with cost, risk, deliverability and wider environmental benefits. As your knowledge and experience grow, you'll develop business cases and present recommendations that help inform senior decision-making.

You'll also support the construction, operation and optimisation of our growing renewable energy portfolio. This includes working with contractors and service providers, reviewing asset performance and helping to ensure our renewable energy schemes deliver maximum value.

While the immediate focus is solar PV, the opportunity is much broader. Our estate has the potential to support battery storage, wind and hydro projects, giving you the chance to contribute to the future direction of renewable energy across the organisation.

This role would suit someone who enjoys combining engineering expertise, commercial thinking, site-based problem solving and project development. It's a rare opportunity to influence projects from concept through to operation while helping shape an ambitious and growing renewable energy programme.
